THUTOBPOHELO TRAINING AND SKILLS ACADEMY COURSE
DURATION OF THE COURSE : 6 MONTHS
The duration is 16 weeks theory and skills development in a simulated environment as well as 8 weeks clinical exposure in a clinical facility( old age home or frail care centre ) to familiarise the learner with the routine and every day activities.
Note :This course is full time and learners will not be allowed to have permanent employment whilst studying
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
The Academy provides academic support. A qualified counselor is available as well as competent facilitators to assist learners with learning problems.
LANGUAGE
The medium of instruction is English and learning material is provided by the Academy. Mother tongue assistance is available when necessary.
COURSE CONTENT: : THEORY AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS : 16 WEEKS THEORY CONSISTING OF
7 SAQA registered Unit Standards:
*Community portfolio to assess the health needs of the individual, family and community
*Basic Health Needs of the elderly
* Primary health care for the elderly
*Frail Care
*HIV/AIDS in every day life
*Tuberculosis & DOT Program
* Basic first aid
*Basic Information Technology Training (IT)
ASSESSMENTS
Formative and summative assessments ( tests and examinations) are conducted during and after each Unit Standard according to the HWSETA policy and Academy policy. This includes two practical assessments (OSCE's)
CLINICAL EXPOSURE : 8 WEEKS
In addition to the above theoretical training, learners will receive clinical exposure in approved clinical facilities
TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE
A temporary certificate will be issued by the Academy for the learner to register as a Home Based Health Care Giver with the Department of Social Development. This is the learner's own responsibility.
MODERATION AND VERIFICATION
After completion of the course, the learner's Portfolio of Evidence is moderated by a registered moderator . Verification ist hen scheduled with the HWSETA to endorse the outcome of the learner's training programme.
ENDORSEMENT AND ACHIEVEMENT : HWSETA
Successful learners will be registered against the selective unit Standards for Home Based Health Care with the HWSETA after a successful verification process by HWSETA.
FINAL ACHIEVEMENT CERTIFICATE
A final HWSETA certificate will be issued by the Academy after endorsement by HWSETA.
